Louth County Council Welcomes Funding for Key Infrastructure Projects

Louth County Council has welcomed funding for three key infrastructure projects in County Louth under Phase One of the Government’s Housing Infrastructure Investment Fund (HIIF). The funding was recently announced by the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD, and Minister of State for Planning and Local Government, John Cummins TD.

The three infrastructure projects are: Phase 3 of the Port Access Northern Cross Route (PANCR), Drogheda, which involves the delivery of a critical section of the distributor road including a railway underbridge; upgrade works at Leonards Cross Junction, Drogheda; and the construction of the Ash Walk Link Road, Ardee.

These projects will provide essential infrastructure to support housing delivery across the county. They will directly enable the development of 2,452 new homes and unlock potential for a further 359 new homes.

Welcoming the announcement, Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, Cllr. Doloras Minogue, said:

“This funding is a major investment in Louth’s future. It will help unlock land for housing in both Drogheda and Ardee while also improving connectivity across the county. These projects will make it easier to deliver the homes our growing population needs.”

Mayor of the Borough District of Drogheda, Cllr Declan Power added:

“The Port Access Northern Cross Route is vital for Drogheda. It will improve access and reduce congestion, while opening up land for new housing and future amenities. This investment will support the town’s growth and make it a more attractive place to live and work.”

Cathaoirleach of the Municipal District of Ardee, Cllr Jim Tenanty said:

“The Ash Walk Link Road will allow new homes to be built in Ardee. This is a positive step that will support the town’s development and future growth.”

The HIIF is managed by the Housing Activation Office in the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. It focuses on housing projects that are ready to break ground and helps ensure infrastructure is in place to support new housing development.

David Jones, Director of Services with Louth County Council added:

“This investment supports Louth County Council’s strategic focus on delivering critical infrastructure that underpins sustainable growth. These projects will improve connectivity, strengthen our transport network and enable planned housing development. We will continue to work with national partners to deliver high-quality infrastructure that supports the county’s long-term economic and community needs.”
