Renewable Energy Directive (RED III)

The European Union (Planning and Development) (Renewable Energy) Regulations 2025 has made amendments to the Planning and Development Act 2000 and the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 to 2025.

The aim of the Directive is to speed up the permit granting process for various types of renewable energy projects. 

A copy of the European Union (Planning and Development) (Renewable Energy) Regulations 2025 Circular No. CEPP 1/2025 and a copy of the European Union (Planning and Development) (Renewable Energy) Regulations 2025 are available below:  

Note that Regulations 6, 12, 14 and 18 in SI 274 of 2025 relating to EIA Scoping will not commence until 1st May 2026
