A Summer Adventure with Summer Stars

Summer Stars is the free national reading programme for children that takes place in all public libraries each summer from June until the end of August 2026.

With summer holidays approaching we invite you to capture children's imaginations by registering them for our exciting Summer Stars challenge. Register for the Summer Stars reading challenge at your local library. Every child who signs up in County Louth will receive a Summer Stars activity book, bookmark and a bag to keep their summer reads in.

Events

There will be lots of exciting free events including storytimes and arts and craft events taking place throughout the summer. Follow Louth Library Service on Facebook and Instagram for more information.

Book Monster stickers

Our book monster stickers will be available for children to collect throughout the summer. Over 1,000 entries were received for our ‘design a book monster’ sticker competition which ran during Spring into Storytime and there was one fantastic winning design from each branch.

Reading Tips

The summer months provide an ideal opportunity for children to take time to find books they really enjoy and experience reading as an activity which is fun and a source of entertainment. Recommended Reads

Libraries Ireland has some great recommended reads available to view here or talk to library staff in your local library who will advise you on what to read next:

Reading cards and reviews: Children can track their reading progress with reading cards which can be marked each time a book is read. These are available from your local library.
