Louth County Council supporting St. Patrick's Day at home and abroad

Louth County Council are preparing to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day 2024 at home and abroad, supporting a series of events honouring Ireland’s patron saint.

Representatives from Louth County Council have accepted an invitation from the County Louth Society of New York to attend celebrations in the ‘Big Apple’ including the world famous NY St. Patrick’s Day parade.

The County Louth Society was formed in 1906 and to this day maintains strong ties with Louth, both through the diaspora, and those who return to Ireland investing back into the county. There is immense pride in those who emigrated from Louth in their connection to the county.

Marching in the St. Patrick’s Day parade in New York brings with it unrivalled global recognition for Louth, as images and footage from the event are broadcast around the world.

A number of elected representatives will be flying the flag for Louth including An Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council as first citizen of Louth, the Cathaoirligh of Ardee and Dundalk Municipal Districts and the Deputy Mayor of the Borough District of Drogheda. Two Louth County Council officials will also be accompanying the delegation.

During the visit the delegation have been invited to a series of planned meetings, with amongst others, the IDA, Tourism Ireland, the Irish Consulate, and Enterprise Ireland to highlight Louth as an attractive and dynamic tourist destination for the US tourism market, and a county open and ready for business and investment, strategically located on the Dublin Belfast Economic Corridor.

Louth County Council have also provided funding support for St. Patrick’s Day events taking place in Louth:

Dundalk is set for a wonderful St Patrick’s Day parade on Sunday March 17th 2024. The event, which will start at 1pm, has the theme of Green Dream and will feature many local community and business organisations showcasing the very best that the town has to offer, including the Defence Forces, firefighters and their vehicles, Garda members, dance groups, musicians, sports teams and local clubs, voluntary and community groups.

Drogheda - A stellar programme of events are planned to take place from Friday 15th to Monday 18th March, when the town of Drogheda will be abuzz with activity celebrating 60 years of the Drogheda Parade.

Ardee - The annual St. Patrick's Day Parade will make it's way through the streets of Ardee on March 17th at 3pm.  All welcome!
