Louth CoCo lead energy efficiency campaign 'Reduce Your Use'

Louth County Council are leading the way in energy efficiency, as part of the Government’s Reduce Your Use campaign.

The Public Sector has been challenged to take a leading role in reducing our nation’s energy demand, and it is expected that this campaign can deliver 5-10% energy savings overall across the sector, and up to 15% in buildings.

The ‘Reduce Your Use’ energy efficiency campaign is an effective way to assist with increasing  energy security, lowering energy bills, and meeting our targets relating to climate change.

Louth County Council’s Energy Team is taking the lead in this campaign and will be promoting a regular energy saving action for all council employees to take at work. Information will also be signposted on energy saving ideas at home.

Information will also be signposted on energy saving ideas at home. This builds on the Council’s participation in the OPWs Optimising Power @ Work campaign.

The campaign features a range of key topics, such as heating, water, lighting, transport and travel, with specific material designed to guide where energy savings can be made in these areas.

Initiatives launched by the local authority over the last few months have included: Bank Holiday shutdown, ‘Energy Vampires’ and awareness around clocks changing.

In addition, the ‘Energy Exercise of the week’ themes featured were: ‘Find the Sweet Spot’ – the heat setting that works for you; ‘Cardigan Culture’, exploring the benefits of adding layers to keep warm and ‘Heating System Health Checks – keeping your boiler and radiator system in good working order’, with a link to a blog post highlighting ‘ten things you should never do with your electric heater,’ and a boiler pressure guide and video on how to bleed radiators.

Joe McGuinness, Director of Services, Louth County Council explained: ‘Now, more than ever, we need to be mindful of how we use energy in our daily lives - from the moment we wake up to the moment we switch off the lights at night. Together, we can make a difference by taking these small but effective energy saving actions.’
