Louth CoCo launch Age Friendly Business Workshops

Louth County Council is aiming to help businesses across County Louth to gain the Age Friendly Business Charter, in a few simple steps.

The local authority together with Age Friendly Ireland are delighted to announce Age Friendly Business Workshops to take place on Wednesday the 24th April in Dundalk and Drogheda. Facilitated by Orla Carmody, Business Consultant to Age Friendly Ireland, attendance at one of the workshops will arm businesses with the information to develop ideas which will lead to Age Friendly Business Accreditation.

Did You Know . . . There are three quarters of a million older people (65+), living and shopping in Ireland and it is anticipated this figure will grow to 1.5 million by 2051. Older people account for up to 50% of all consumer spending in the EU. They have the time to shop, they like to shop, and they are loyal customers. They will come back to you again and again if you make the consumer experience comfortable and pleasant for them. As the saying goes “if you design for the young, you exclude the old. But if you design for the old you include everyone”

Your business should be Age Friendly because:

  • Ø It is simple to achieve
  • Ø It is low cost or cost neutral
  • Ø It opens up new business for you
  • Ø It is the right thing to do!

What is involved?

In four simple steps you can become an Age Friendly Business:

  1. Plan: Identify a member of staff to act as a champion for age-friendliness and older customers
  2. Act: The champion participates in our Age Friendly Business Workshop and starts to develop ideas for your business
  3. Consult: Ask your older customers what they like & what you can improve
  4. Implement: Develop and implement 3 actions, receive your Charter and get recognised as an Age Friendly Business!
