Louth County Council Welcomes Funding for Community Climate Action Projects

Louth County Council has welcomed the announcement of €651,374 in funding for community-led climate action projects across the county. The funding, announced by Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment Darragh O’Brien T.D., has been awarded to 17 projects under Phase 2 of the Community Climate Action Programme, with additional funding set aside for reserve projects.

Funded by the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, the programme supports local projects that reduce carbon emissions, protect biodiversity, and help communities respond to climate change.

Local groups receiving funding include Dundalk Young Irelands GFC, St. John of God North East Services, Louth Beekeepers Association, Mattock Rangers, Ardee St. Mary’s GFC, and Drogheda Homeless Aid. Other successful applicants include Dundalk Tennis Club,Dundalk Dog Rescue, Oliver Plunketts GFC, Clan Na Gael GFC, Naomh Mairtin and Dromiskin Tidy Towns. Albion Rovers FC, Muirhevnamor Community Gardens, Haggardstown and Blackrock Community Centre, Stephenstown Pond Trust and Kilkerley Emmetts also secured support.

Funded projects include solar panel installations, LED lighting and energy upgrades, pollinator friendly planting, sustainable drainage works, bike shelters, EV charging points, water refill stations and rainwater harvesting systems. Grants of up to €100,000 will allow community groups to deliver these projects in full.
