NEW - BHIS Historic Thatched Buildings Stream 2027
Applications are now being accepted for the Historic Thatched Buildings Stream 2027
28th July 2026 - Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan TD, confirmed that the Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) 2026 for the repair and conservation of protected structures has been launched for the coming year. This announcement also includes Historic Thatch Buildings (HTB) 2026 funding for the conservation of historic thatched buildings.
The BHIS Historic Thatched Buildings Stream is intended to support thatched buildings in need of repair and conservation works, as follows:
- Primary qualifying works are thatching works to the roof and any necessary work that must be completed as part of these works, such as chimney repairs.
- Other conservation works to historic thatched properties which fall into the Qualifying Works for the mainstream BHIS will also be considered -

Funding Available
The level of funding awarded will be up to a maximum of €20,000. A minimum of 20% match funding is required.
Note: No applicant is guaranteed a set amount of funding under the scheme in any given year.

Completed applications, along with all relevant supporting documentation including, reports/method statements, photographs and quotations can be submitted by hard copy to Conservation Grants, Louth County Council, Town Hall, Dundalk, Co. Louth A91 W20C or by email to conservation@louthcoco.ie
