Scam Warning: Unauthorised Individuals Claiming to Carry Out Home Energy Upgrade Works

Louth County Council is urging members of the public to remain vigilant following reports of individuals calling to homes claiming to be carrying out home energy upgrade works on behalf of the council.

The Council wishes to remind all council tenants that:

  • They will always receive advance notification from Louth County Council before any planned upgrade or maintenance works are carried out to their property.
  • Louth County Council staff and authorised contractors will always carry official identification and will present it when requested.

Members of the public should be aware that Louth County Council does not carry out energy upgrades, surveys, or maintenance works in privately owned homes.

If a person calls to your home claiming to be working for or on behalf of Louth County Council:

  • Ask to see official identification.
  • Do not allow anyone into your home unless you are satisfied as to their identity and purpose.
  • If you have any concerns about who is at your door, contact Louth County Council directly on 042 933 5457 to verify their identity.
  • If safe to do so, make a note of vehicle registration numbers and any other identifying details.

Louth County Council is asking residents to share this information with family members, neighbours and friends, particularly older people and those who may be more vulnerable to scams.

Anyone who suspects suspicious activity should contact An Garda Síochána or Louth County Council immediately.
