Ardee Castle

Louth County Council will undertake works to refurbish and regenerate Ardee Castle the largest medieval fortified tower house to survive in Ireland.

The works will include renewed access for all to all parts of the Castle involving the installation of a new lift and staircase core sitting separate of the Castle building. Internal refurbishments to the castle as well as significant works to the building adjacent providing new spaces complimentary  to those contained in the Tower House. Peeling back of some of the more modern interventions to better show the history and heritage of the castle.

The works will provide much more legible access and circulation around the historic spaces.

The works are funded by Louth County Council and the Department of Rural Regeneration via the Rural Regeneration Development fund and are part of Project Ireland 2040.
