Piers and Harbours

Harbours & Piers Fees

Louth County Council is the Harbour Authority for the ports of Clogherhead and Annagassan and Calingford and owns many piers along the coast. During 2003, improvement works was carried out on Annagassan harbour to extend the moorings.

Improvements to Clogherhead's Inner Harbour were carried out and a navigation light erected. A cost benefit report on major improvements to Clogherhead was finalised and approval given to commence design for the same.

Coastal Protection

Louth County Council carried out extensive protection work along vulnerable areas of the coastline. Priority was given to the protection of public property including county roads and amenity areas.

Work was carried out at Whitestown and Ballagan in the Cooley Peninsular, at Salterstown and Dunany and at Cruisetown and Reynoldstown near Clogherhead.

Louth experienced severe storms during February 2003 resulting in damange to the seawalls and embankments at Blackrock and Bellurgan. Louth County Council carried out repair work at these areas.

A report on the extent of coastal erosion was produced and will be used to identify areas for future funding.
