REFURBISHMENT OF ST DOMINICS BRIDGE WORKS
Louth County Council hereby publishes this notice of its intention to carry out bridge refurbishment works within the River Boyne and River Blackwater SAC and SPA, namely St Dominic’s Bridge, Co. Louth.
ST DOMINICS BRIDGE WORKS
The proposed works are to be carried out along the existing St Dominic’s Bridge situated over the main channel of the River Boyne approximately 1.5rKm (River Kilometres) upstream of the M1 crossing of the river, to the west of Drogheda.
The works will involve the following:
- Strengthening of pier columns, through wrapping the same with a composite epoxy reinforcing fabric.
- Replacement of damaged/missing cross bracing members at the piers.
- Horizontal tie members to be replaced.
- Repair to concrete edge beams.
- Grit blasting and installation of protective paint system.
- Strengthening/replacement of elements with significant section loss.
- Repointing of masonry abutments.
- Replacement of bridge bearing.
- Provision of positive drainage system.
- Replacement of existing concrete deck slab.
- Installation of water proofing system to deck.
- Installation of new road surface and lining on both sides of the structure.
Louth County Council proposes to seek approval of An Bord Pleanála for the proposed works under Section 177AE (4)(a) of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as inserted by Section 57 of the Planning and Development (Amendment) Act 2010). A Natura Impact Statement (NIS) has been prepared in respect of the proposed works. An Bord Pleanála may give approval to the application with or without conditions or may refuse the application
Plans and particulars, including the Natura Impact Statement are available for inspection at the offices of Louth County Council;

- - Fair Street, Drogheda, Co. Louth
between the hours of 10am and 3pm Monday to Friday from 15th September to 30th October 2020
The Natura Impact Statements will be available to purchase at a cost of €15.00, or can be downloaded free of charge at www.louthcoco.ie
Submissions and observations with respect to the proposed works, if carried out, may be made in writing to
An Bord Pleanála, 64 Marlborough Street, Dublin 1 before Friday 30th October 2020 at 12.30pm
(i) The implications of the proposed developments for proper planning and sustainable development in the areas concerned,
(ii) The likely effects on the environment of the proposed developments, and
(iii) The likely significant effects of the proposed developments on the European sites.
A person may question the validity of any such decision by the Board by way of an application for judicial review under Order 84 of the Rules of the Superior Courts (S.I. No. 15 of 1986) in accordance with Section 50 of the Planning and Development Act 2000, as amended.
