NOTICE UNDER SECTION 177AE (4)(a) OF

THE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT ACT 2000 (AS INSERTED BY SECTION 57 OF THE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT (AMENDMENT) ACT 2010)

 REFURBISHMENT OF OBELISK BRIDGE WORKS

Louth County Council hereby publishes this notice of its intention to carry out bridge refurbishment works within the River Boyne and River Blackwater SAC and SPA, namely Obelisk Bridge, Co. Louth.

OBELISK BRIDGE REFURBISHMENT WORKS

The proposed works are to be carried out along the existing Obelisk Bridge situated over the main channel of the River Boyne approximately 1.5rKm (River Kilometres) upstream of the M1 crossing of the river, to the west of Drogheda.

 The works will involve the following:

  •  Replacement of existing RC deck slab
  • Installation of waterproofing system to RC deck
  • Grit blasting and installation of a protective paint system for all elements
  • Replacement of elements with significant cross section loss
  • Replacement of rivet missing connections
  • Repointing of abutment pillars and re-installation of copping slabs
  • Reconstruction of approach and departure walls to the South of the Bridge
  • Installation of new road surface and lining on both sides of the structure.

Louth County Council proposes to seek approval of An Bord Pleanála for the proposed works under Section 177AE (4)(a) of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as inserted by Section 57 of the Planning and Development (Amendment) Act 2010). A Natura Impact Statement (NIS) has been prepared in respect of the proposed works.  An Bord Pleanála may give approval to the application with or without conditions or may refuse the application

Plans and particulars, including the Natura Impact Statement  are available for inspection at the offices of Louth County Council;

  • - Town Hall, Crowe St, Dundalk, Co. Louth
  • - Fair Street, Drogheda, Co. Louth

 between the hours of 10am and 3pm Monday to Friday from 15th September to 30th October 2020

The Natura Impact Statements will be available to purchase at a cost of €15.00, or can be downloaded free of charge at www.louthcoco.ie

 Submissions and observations with respect to the proposed works, if carried out, may be made in writing to:

 An Bord Pleanála, 64 Marlborough Street, Dublin 1 before Friday 30th October 2020 at 12.30pm

 (i)    The implications of the proposed developments for proper planning and sustainable development in the areas concerned,

 (ii)   The likely effects on the environment of the proposed developments, and

 (iii)   The likely significant effects of the proposed developments on the European sites.

A person may question the validity of any such decision by the Board by way of an application for judicial review under Order 84 of the Rules of the Superior Courts (S.I. No. 15 of 1986) in accordance with Section 50 of the Planning and Development Act 2000, as amended.
