Our Services

  • Provision of guides, indexes and finding aids to the collections including an online catalogue assisting you to request a specific item(s).

  • Access to the archive collections and assistance in using them, free of charge, in our Research Room.

  • Assistance with enquiries.  We welcome enquiries by email, telephone or post and endeavour to respond within a timeframe of one week. We are however unable to undertake research but advice is given on what records we hold that are relevant to your query.

  • Free internet access and a microfilm reader in our Research Room.

  • Copying service where possible (fees apply).

  • Exhibitions, archival displays, talks and group visits such as for schools, college or community groups.

  • Preservation advice can be provided on request to individuals, groups or businesses.

  • Acquisition and cataloguing of archives documenting the history and heritage of County Louth to ISAD(G) standard. 

  • Environmentally controlled secure storage for archives in line with international archival standards.

  • Conservation of archives in poor condition as resources permit.  Professional conservation treatment can only be carried out by a qualified conservator.  Over the years Louth County Archives has been fortunate in obtaining several awards of funding from the Heritage Council for conservation projects with Louth County Council also contributing funding.  Treatment has been carried out on both public and private collections.

  • Records management services to Louth Local Authorities.
