Louth County Council is delighted to announce that an unprecedented six local creations have reached Finals of the Junk Kouture which is Ireland’s leading fashion and art competition for second level students. All finalists recently took part in the local Trashion Fashion event which was held in the Carrickdale Hotel where 55 models showcased their couture outfits of all shapes and sizes made by the least couture of materials – junk! Each outfit is unique. Each one is made from 100% recycled materials!
It is the seventh year of the Junk Kouture competition which is sponsored by the Bank of Ireland and it involves students creating wearable and high end garments. The outfits must then be modelled on a catwalk to a 90 second piece of music, which allows the students to choreograph a performance to showcase their creations. The students are judged on recycling of materials, performance and online votes.
Louth will be represented at the National Final by three entries from Coláiste Rís and one from Bush School, Scoil Mhuire, Dunleer and St Vincent’s, Dundalk.
The judges of this year’s final include Louis Walsh and Una Healy from the Saturdays. This year’s Junk Kouture prizes include €2,500 cash for the school, €500 cash and iPad minis for the winning team, as well as a scholarship to the Limerick School of Art & Design. The overall and regional winning teams will also attend the Cannes Film Festival in May 2017.
