North East Regional Waste Plan
North East Regional Waste Management Plan 2005-2010Waste Management Plan presentation
The Waste Management Plan for the North East Region sets out proposals for managing our waste over the next 15 years. We want to reduce the amount of waste we produce, recycle as much as possible and cut the amount of waste sent to landfill.
The plan was formally enacted in August 2001 and is the blueprint for how this region encompassing Louth, Meath, Cavan and Monaghan will deal with waste arising in our region. Policy direction has been made under the following headings:
- Waste minimisation
- Regulation and enforcement
- Waste recycling
- Waste recovery
- Waste transfer
- Waste disposal
- Agricultural waste
Specific targets are set in the plan to be achieved at different times over the lifespan of the plan.Louth County Council operates and maintains one landfill located at Whiteriver, Collon, Co. Louth. The Council have applied to the Environmental Protection Agency for a waste license to extend the operation of this landfill site to an annual capacity of 100,000 tonnes and a final decision in relation to same is expected in the very near future. Louth County Council does not provide a refuse collection service.
