Louth County Development Board

The Louth County Development Board established in March 2000 brings together Local Government, Local Development, State Agencies at local level, and the Social Partners including the community and voluntary sector. The Board has produced a ten-year strategy for the Social, Economic and Cultural development of County Louth. The Board is facilitated by two staff within the Department of Community and Enterprise.

Staff from the Directorate of Community, Economic Development & Recreation, who act as secretariat to the County Forum will be in attendance to outline the steps necessary to progress the scheme and establish the new County Community & Voluntary Forum.
The establishment of new community representation structures began in 1999. Louth County Community and Voluntary Forum now meets regularly in Ardee, Drogheda and Dundalk. The Forum works to represent the Community and Voluntary Sector in the County, sending community delegates to many different groups and committees concerned with local development. All eligible groups are entitled to register and become members of the Forum. A Community Forum Development Officer provides support to the Forum.
Louth Social Inclusion Unit
Social Inclusion UnitThe Louth Social Inclusion Unit was established within the Community and Enterprise Department in 2001 as one of the 8 pilot units throughout the country. In 2006 the Unit was made permanent. The Unit is led by the Social Inclusion Officer who is supported by a Researcher/Analyst. The objective of the Unit is to devise and implement a strategic social inclusion focus in co-operation with all service areas of Louth Local Authorities. This is to be achieved through the implementation of social inclusion initiatives/projects in co-operation with local authority sections.
The RAPID Programme

The RAPID programme (Revitalising Areas by Planning, Investment and Development) is a focused initiative by the Government to target the 25 most concentrated area of disadvantage in the country. In Louth RAPID is being implemented in Dundalk and Drogheda since . Two RAPID Co-ordinators are delivering the programme supported by Area Implementation Teams.
Tourism Development

Louth Hospitality was set up in 2004 to adopt a more cohesive approach to tourism development and marketing. The County Tourism Officer is Secretary to the Louth Hospitality board and also participates on the local Chambers of Commerce Tourism Committees.
Louth Heritage
Louth HeritageLouth Local Authorities are currently developing the first ever heritage plan for County Louth (including the Borough of Drogheda and the self-governing towns of Ardee and Dundalk), with the support and financial assistance of the Heritage Council.
The Plan will be a non-statutory document, prepared by the Louth Heritage Forum. It will comprise an agreed, five year, joint workplan for a partnership of the many individuals and organisations (voluntary, social partners, statutory and local authority) with a direct involvement in Louth’s heritage. This participatory process is being managed by the Louth Heritage Officer.
Louth County Council led Peace II Programme




The EU Peace II Programme (2000 – 2006) is a distinctive European Union Structural Funds Programme for all of Northern Ireland and the Border Region of Ireland (Louth, Monaghan, Cavan, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal). The overall strategic aim of the Peace II Programme is "To reinforce progress towards a peaceful and stable society and to promote reconciliation". It will assist Northern Ireland and the Border Region of Ireland to address the legacy of the violence and "Troubles" of the past 30 years and to take advantage of opportunities arising from the peace process.
The Programme operates as a sub committee of the Louth County Development Board and is managed by Louth County Council led Peace II Development Officer.
