This function is carried out under the Local Government Sanitary Services Acts 1878 - 1964, Water Supplies Act 1942 and various legislation and national schemes. The work involved can, broadly speaking, be broken into three areas:
- Operation of existing schemes
- Capital Works
- Rural Water Programme
The Water service facilities in the Dundalk and Drogheda area are independently administered by Dundalk Town Council and Drogheda Borough Council respectively.
