The Water Services Section of Louth County Council provides water and sewerage facilities to properties in the Council's functional area. This function is carried out under the Local Government Sanitary Services Acts 1878 - 1964, Water Supplies Act 1942 and various legislation and national schemes. The work involved can, broadly speaking, be broken into three areas:
- Operation of existing schemes
- Capital Works
- Rural Water Programme
The Water service facilities in the Dundalk and Drogheda area are independently administered by Dundalk Town Council and Drogheda Borough Council respectively.
