Local History Sources

  • Wide selection of local history books, covering Co. Louth's towns of Dundalk, Drogheda and Ardee, as well as the rural villages and other areas of the county.
  • Tempest Annuals - local directories for Dundalk and surrounding areas, covering the period 1863-1976. Containing local events, advertisements for local businesses; and street directories showing local residents and business people from 1920 onwards.
  • Louth Archaelogical and Historical Journals, from 1904 to present.
  • Photographic histories of Dundalk town, covering the early 1900's. Also the Lawrence Collection of photographs of Dundalk in the late 1800's.
  • Maps of Co. Louth: Down Survey Maps 1657; Tayler and Skinner maps 1777; ordnance survey maps 1835; Town maps of Dundalk for 1867-69 and 1880's, also sites and monuments record maps for 1994.
  • Local Newspapers - hardcopy and microfilm editions of the Dundalk Democrat 1849.

  • Local History Files - containing newspaper articles, and local history projects on a wide variety of topics.
  • Folklore, microfilm copies of Schools Manuscripts Collection, 1937-38. These are copies of articles written by schoolchildren covering topics of local interest.
