A tyre supplier is defined in the regulations as a person who, for the purpose of trade or otherwise in the course of business as a manufacturer, wholesaler, supplier, trader, or retailer, sells or otherwise supplies tyres or, as appropriate, waste tyres to other persons.

Obligations on Tyre Suppliers

Under the regulations, all tyre suppliers in Co. Louth were required to register with either Louth County Council or an approved compliance scheme by 1st February 2008. TRACS and TWM have been approved by the Minister of the Environment as the approved compliance schemes. Registration is required annually.

Please note that under the regulations, tyre suppliers can only transfer waste tyres to authorised waste collectors who are in possession of a valid waste collection permit and are registered with either the Local Authority or an approved compliance scheme.

Registration Options

Details of the registration options are as follows:

Option 1 - Louth County Council Registration

If you choose to register as a tyre supplier with Louth County Council, you must register each premises located within Co. Louth that is used for the supply of tyres, or used for the storage of tyres prior to supply. A completed tyre supplier registration form, a waste management plan, auditor’s certificate and the relevant fee should be submitted to the Waste Enforcement Section of Louth County Council. The Waste Enforcement Section can be contacted for an application form at the following address:

Registration with the Local Authority also requires the applicant to submit quarterly reports to the Local Authority, and annual reports to the Environmental Protection Agency. There is also a requirement to re-register annually with the Local Authority and prepare annual waste management plans and reports.

Option 2 - TRACS Registration

If you choose to register as a tyre supplier with TRACS, please submit a completed TRACS registration form and the appropriate fee to TRACS at the address below. The application form can be downloaded from the TRACS website.
