Mayor welcomes Coca-Cola jobs boost for Drogheda

Cllr Kevin Callan, Mayor of Drogheda, has welcomed the announcement by Coca-Cola that they are creating an additional 100 jobs at their operation in the town.

The jobs boost comes at the company's Global Business Shared Services unit.

The investment in the Drogheda offices is generating 100 positions, 40 of which have already been filled, taking the current headcount in Drogheda to 200 with this set to increase to more than 250.

Mayor Callan said he was delighted to hear details of Coca-Cola's ongoing commitment to expansion in Drogheda, which were detailed at the opening by An Taoiseach of a new Coca-Cola facility in Wexford.

"Coca-Cola has for many years shown a strong commitment to Drogheda, not only as an employer but as a key part of the community where the company has generously backed several valuable social and sporting projects. It is very encouraging to hear that Coca-Cola continues to show a commitment to the town with its ongoing expansion here.

"At the moment, every new job created is a success and the increased company presence in Drogheda also helps safeguard existing employment.  For Coca-Cola to create 100 new jobs, with 40 already filled, to eventually bringing their local workforce in Drogheda to over 250 is a major boost for the town and should be welcomed and celebrated.

Mayor Callan added: "This news has to be very encouraging also for all our other Drogheda based businesses and to those looking to Drogheda as a potential location to develop their business. We have a great pro-business attitude in Drogheda while our location relative to Dublin Airport, Dublin and Belfast is first class.

"I hope that this announcement will be the first of many positive results for our town in the coming months and years. I wish Coca-Cola continued success and look forward to the official opening of the new offices in Drogheda next month."
