Drogheda Borough Council extend parking time on West Street in response to traders
Drogheda Borough Council is extending the maximum parking period on West Street in the town centre from 30 minutes to an hour.
The move has been sought for some time by retailers on the street which has seen considerable investment in recent years.
Joan Martin, Director of Services & Town Clerk, Louth Local Authorities, said: “We have been working closely with the traders operating on West St which is an important part of the town’s historic core retail area. Their feedback to us has been that the half-hour restriction on parking was limiting customers’ ability to browse and shop. In response, we are now doubling the time limit to an hour.
“The changes will be effective from November 9 and helps bring West St in line with other streets in the town centre. The hour-long limit should still allow for a steady turnover at the parking spaces each day in this prime location. Our pay parking machines and displays will be altered shortly to indicate the changes being made.
“We are particularly pleased to make this move in the lead-in to the crucially important pre-Christmas trading period when we will again be working with all stakeholders to make shopping in Drogheda town centre as attractive as possible for people from the town and its hinterland in Louth and Meath.”
