Annual Report 2010

Joint address by the County Manager and the Cathaoirligh/Mayor

We are pleased to present, on behalf of Louth Local Authorities, the Annual Report for 2010.

The continued economic downturn prolongs the challenge on Elected Members and staff alike in maintaining a high quality service to our customers and clients. This report reflects these challenges and highlights the continued efforts being made to ensure core services are delivered in timely and appropriate
fashion despite the continued reduction in resources.

The Local Authorities have as a core objective a philosophy to encourage and promote a climate that
creates employment. This philosophy was, in 2010 progressed by way of the very active Economic Forum who produced two key actions plans for the county focusing on Foreign Direct Investment and Sustainable Energy. The rollout of such initiatives in the coming years will undoubtedly bring a realisation to the job creation objective.

Revised political structures supported by dynamic staffing structures which were embedded in 2010 have added greatly to maintaining service levels and
improving efficiencies.

Day to day operational costs continued to be an area of focus in 2010 with significant efforts being undertaken to achieve efficiencies and savings in
energy and fuel use.

Staffs across all authorities continue to work closely with the well established and more recently formed community and residential groups in an effort to
continue to support their endeavours in improving the environment in which we live.

Community representatives working in partnership with the Elected Members and other statutory agencies on a number of forums including the County
Development Board, The Strategic and Municipal Policy Committees, Joint Policing Committees, The Age Friendly Alliance and the Peace III Peace &
Reconciliation Partnership as well as the Community and Voluntary Forum continue to focus on the economic, social and cultural aspects of life in our
County and help develop County Louth as the foremost location to live, work, socialise and be educated in.

We in presenting the Annual report recognise the many challenges ahead and in doing so acknowledge the commitment and dedication of staff and members
alike who in collaboration through the vital alliances with community and other agencies will continue to deliver effective leadership and an efficient and
quality service to the people of County Louth.
