A. BE SURE TO INCLUDE:

Every person over 18 living at your address

17 year olds who will be 18 by 15th February next

Any eligible person who normally lives at your address but is temporarily away

B. DO NOT INCLUDE:

A visitor staying temporarily at your address

C. CITIZENSHIP

While every resident is entitled to be registered, the registration authority needs to know a person's citizenship to determine the elections at which they may vote

The right to vote is as follows:

  • Irish citizens may vote at every election and referendum
  • British citizens may vote at Dail, European and local elections
  • EU citizens (other than British citizens) may vote at European and local elections
  • Non-EU citizens may vote at local elections

D. TWO VERSIONS OF THE REGISTER

Since 2004, regisration authorities are required to publish two versions of the register - the edited register and the full register

The full register lists everyone who is entitled to vote and can only be used for an electoral or other statutory purpose

EDITED REGISTER

The edited register contains the names and addresses of persons whose details can be used for a purpose other than an electoral or other statutory purpose e.g. for direct marketing use by a commercial or other organisation

If any member(s) of the household do not want their details to be included on the edited register, you should tick the relevant opt out box(es) in column (v) at part 3 of the form. If any household members want their registration details to be included (i.e. available for non-satutory uses), you should leave the relevant opt out box(es) blank
